THE BEAUTY OF THE NEXT PHASE OF LIFE

THE BEAUTY OF THE NEXT PHASE OF LIFE

How paradoxical the statement is, “How beautiful yet intricately complex the next phase of life is!”

Yes, my friends, this is the next phase of our lives, when we have either crossed or are approaching the threshold of 50 years of age. A lot of confusion, perplexity, and a whirlpool of complicated ideas that are pulling us deep into a new world – a world of aspirations, new hopes, new desires as they were left unfulfilled, unnoticed, and ignored while anchoring families, supporting relationships, taking care of the children’s education, their career, maintaining financial stability and what not! Half a century of our lives has passed, and we never took the time to reflect on our identities, priorities, and happiness.

We had been running from pillar to post to see if all were satisfied with our services, if we had accomplished our assigned tasks to the best of our potential, if we had not hurt anyone’s feelings; if we had; we felt apologetic and pleaded in front of others at times and assured them that it won’t be repeated. Most of our life has vanished in the blink of an eye, and something has been left that keeps tormenting, screaming, shrinking in our heart of hearts- THE INNER VOICE OF OUR SOUL. The question that wriggles us time and again is “Where do we stand in this whole process? Where is our identity? What have we done to ourselves, our dreams, and our longings- strangulated them?”

When the children have settled to some extent or are on the way to their destination, our health issues have started obstructing our path- our vision is getting weaker, and so poor that images in the phone are getting blurred. Sometimes, we become the victim of mockery by our children or family members – What an ironic situation!!!

The density of the bones has perhaps deteriorated, as per the pathological lab reports. The introduction of so many medicines and the hormonal imbalances due to menopause are also taking their toll.  The frustration, the mood swings, and the unexpressed, pent-up feelings are making our lives a real hell.

Where is the beauty of this age? - You must be thinking. Let me explain it to you. This is the time when a clarion call has awakened our hearts to take the right measures at the right time before it is too late. This is the need of the hour to be on our toes to transform the impossibilities into possibilities. Let’s work on our health by taking the required medication and introduce a set of physical exercises in our daily routine. Learning new skills such as swimming, technology, driving a car or a bike, at this age, is icing on the cake as it gives a feeling of accomplishment, fulfilment, and enrichment; believe me. Don’t look for acknowledgment or approval from others. Come on, we have done a lot for others; no need to chase perfection anymore. Now it is time to listen to our inner voice that is screaming out loud to do something for ourselves. Go out to social gatherings with your friends. Enjoy the company of your friends, share peals of laughter, dance together; it doesn’t matter if you are not aware of the moves and twists of dance movements. Make reels if you are fond of; let people laugh and comment on your reels- they are not acquainted with your mental health journey. Don’t pay heed to the people’s remarks anymore, as they were not standing by you in your turbulent times. People need to have something to gossip about, so let them collect some material for their idle gossip, but you make your lives productive by pursuing your hobbies, which you have always avoided on the pretext of household chores or other responsibilities. Believe me, these works will never end, but life is on the verge of its last stage.  These moments are to be made productive by learning new skills, making our physical and mental health better, by reading more books (if you are interested), by doing some charity (feeding the poor or showering your love on animals) by practising pranayama and meditation on regular basis as it lays the foundation of peace, serenity and calmness in our lives.

Hence, stay healthy, stay blessed, and enjoy the second-most beautiful phase of your life. May Lord Krishna bless us all with an abundance of happiness, love, and laughter!!!

  3. I have come across women much younger than me but sadly with no vision or zest for the life and have had the pleasure of meeting women older than me and yet so full of life ! If we keep on postponing things that bring us joy until we have fulfilled all our duties we will have no life left in us when we come to that. Let no one take you for granted not even your children. Women just need to understand how important it is to love themselves and nourish their mind, body and soul.
